A Romantic Interlude in the New Smyrna Beach Area

February means romance, and we couldn’t imagine a better place than the New Smyrna Beach Area to escape our day-to-day lives for a romantic getaway. With miles of sand, sunny days, fine dining, and indoor and outdoor activities galore, it was easy to spend a short break making lifelong memories.

A Cozy B&B

Anchor Inn Bed & Breakfast at Twilight-1We started our morning on the quaint porch of the Anchor Inn Bed & Breakfast, sipping fresh-brewed coffee and planning our day’s adventures, before savoring a hearty, home-made breakfast. We had wanted an intimate accommodation for our romantic weekend away, and we certainly found that at this Craftsman bungalow, right in the Historic Downtown. The cozy, ocean-themed rooms provided the perfect atmosphere for us to relax and forget the world. We chose the Beach Trip room—with direct access to the deck and a whirlpool tub, we found our stay carefree and invigorating.  We also registered for the Romantic Package, so we were welcomed by a platter of hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberries and a bottle of wine. It was a great start to our mini-vacation to focus on us.

Biking

Woman_Bike_JBs-1200x1200The warmth of the sun beckoned us to spend some time outdoors, so we stopped at Pedego to rent a pair of ebikes to easily explore the town and its many beaches and parks. We rode through the downtown, admiring the displays in the numerous art galleries and boutiques. We then headed east, toward the beaches, where we zipped along the surf, laughing like children as the salty spray dampened our legs. At Smyrna Dunes Park, we stopped to enjoy a romantic picnic lunch while watching the sunbathers bronze and the children splashing in the waves.

Pampering Treatment

Spa at Riverview2 (1)After returning the ebikes, it was time for a little pampering à deux. The Riverview Spa, located in the Riverview Hotel, offers a variety of tempting couples’ packages. We opted for the 50-minute Swedish massage but kept in mind their Champagne and Berries Pedicure for Two for our next trip here. After the massage, we floated around in the spa’s heated waterfall pool, making sure every last iota of stress left our bodies. Could life get any better?

Coastal Vibes

Corkscrew_SrQh09XsgfM4p-RhKMHQibt18q0ABlZBhFor dinner, we sought a cozy spot, with tropical touches to warm our souls. The palm-lined patio of the family-owned CorkScrew Bar & Grille fit the bill, as did their creative collection of fruity cocktails and extensive wine list. Sharing a plate of Cuban Candy (fried bites of cod with house-made remoulade) reminded us of our first date—getting to know each other over drinks and appetizers. Who knew what a romance was ahead of us? After our meals of seared salmon and mojito scallops, we shared a decadent slice of sweet potato maple cheesecake and cheekily decided that next time, we needed to ride the bikes a bit further during the day to compensate for such a hedonistic meal.

Beach Bliss

We ended our day strolling arm-in-arm along New Smyrna Beach. The sun was about to set,  but we still had time to put our toes in the sand and listen to the soothing sound of the ocean. The cool breeze off the water tousled our hair, but the warmth in our hearts from our romantic getaway kept us from feeling chilled. We agreed that this was the perfect destination to keep our fire burning and promised ourselves to book our next getaway here as soon as we arrived home.
